layover in taipei. can i still get the 72 hour visa?

I have a flight from Taipei to Guangzhou. Then from Guangzhou to Tokyo but there is a layover in Taipei.

If the trip is Taipei-Guangzhou-Tokyo, you can use the 72h free transit. If it's Taipei-Guangzhou-Taipei-Tokyo, you won't qualify for the 72h twov then.
