Hi...I am travelling from Vancouver to Pakistan with my wife and children. We are all Canadian citizens except for my wife who  is a Canadian permanent resident but has Pakistani passport. We are travelling through China and have 14hrs stay at Ghuangzhou airport. Can she get a transit visa upon arrival so we can find a hotel and rest a little bit as our stay is 14hrs.

Hi. Thank you so much for your reply. I tried to call the airport at the number you provided but unfortunately the person who answered the phone does not speak English. I tried 2 times with same result. Are you sure that my wife who is a Canadian permanent resident and has Pakistani passport will be able to get a transit visa so we can go to the hotel for 14hrs? I have been researching and been getting conflicting information. So just for the peace of mind I wanted to check with you a second time.

I just called the Guangzhou Baiyun airport and was told that it is not sure that your wife can obtain 24-hour visa free transit permit and her application may be refused after a series of identity checks at the airport. For fear of inconvenience caused by such case, you are suggested to apply for a regular transit visa in advance if you decide to leave the airport.
