About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does this trip work?

I am going from the US to Beijing, Beijing to Cambodia. Then from Cambodia to Beijing then back to the US. Each leg of my trip was booked separately, so different trip itineraries. My flight from Cambodia to Beijing has a layover in Hong Kong. Do I still qualify for free transit travel? And will I be able to leave the Hong Kong airport?

For USA Passport:
USA > Beijing > Cambodia is eligible for the 144 hour twov
Cambodia > Hong Kong > Beijing > USA is eligible for another 144 hour twov in Beijing.
Hong Kong is not considered part of China for visa purposes. US Passport can stay in Hong Kong without a visa for up to 90 days.

Multiple tickets are allowed. Be sure print a copy of all the flight confirmations, which should show the ticket number.
