About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

Chinese Visitor Visa valid in old passport, should we bring both the new and old passports to China?

To Whom It May Concern:

My 6 year old son was issued a Chinese entry permit in February 2016 to travel to China to visit our Chinese relatives. That Visa is good until 2026. However, he received a new US passport after turning 5 years old since the original passport was only good for 5 years. His new US passport has a new passport number and does not contain the Chinese entry permit in it.

Should we carry both passports (old and new one) when we travel to China next June (June 2019) so that we have the Chinese entry permit in our possession that we purchased?

Thank you for your assistance.

Yes, you can bring both the new and old passports to China for that trip.
