About:cq02

i just saw your post on facebook after i just booked air tix from australia to chongqing

because it is really cheap right now. anyway I have to questions about the city if you dont mind.

Question 1: what is a "must eat" street food i have to try? any particular famous ones?

Question 2: other than ci qu kou, are there any other nearby ancient preserved towns easy to get to?

Question 3: do people still use cash? or is it 100% alipay and wechat pay now? i do not have wechat/alipay accounts (they wont let tourists open it. not yet)

Hi, Arty! I’d like to give you some advice:
1). If you don’t mind the spicy food, I think hot-pot is a must. Besides, Ma La Tang, Chongqing noodles, Suan La Fen, and Guo tie are great!
2). Besides Ci Qi Kou, I found other ancient towns including Songgai Ancient Town, Xituo Town, and Lai Tan Ancient Town.
3). No worry! The cash is available in all places.

One bus departs from Chongqing Bus Station to Songgai Ancient Town at 13:20. It takes about 1.5h and costs CNY 44.
To Xituo, you can take a bus from South Square Bus Station of Chongqing North Station at 12:30. It takes about 3h and costs CNY 80.
There is no direct bus to Lai Tan, and you need to take a regular bus from Sigongli Bus Station to Laichuan. It takes about 1h and costs CNY 30. After arrival, take a taxi to the town.

With Lai Tan, at the Laichuan stop is it easy to get a taxi? Would you know approx how much it Cost and how long it would get to Lai Tan? Cheers again

Sorry. I made a mistake. It is Hechuan Bus Station, not Laichuan. After arriving, transfer a bus to Longshi Bus Station. Then you can easily find a taxi to the ancient town. Generally speaking, the cab fare is CNY20-30. Longshi Bus Station is only about 3km away from Lai Tan Ancient Town. Thus it won't take a long time.

By the way. one more thing. I also stumbled across Zhongshan ancient town. (中山古镇) is that easy to get to too during december/January? Thanks.

No, the best time to visit the town is in Spring(March - May)and Autumn(September - November). It is the coldest time in December or January.

You can take the bus at the Chenjiaping Bus Station or Chaotianmen Bus Station to Jiangjin. The ticket price ranges from about CNY 15 to 25 and the duration is about 1 hour. Then transfer to take the bus to the ancient town at Jianjin Passenger Center with ticket fare of CNY12.
