About:144-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

I am a US citizen and believe flying direct from Thailand to Shanghai

Then back to the US would be eligible for the 144 hour Visa, is this correct? Also on my 144 hours would I be able to take the train to Xi'an to see the Terracotta Army or is that outside the visa region?

If you just transit in Shanghai then there is no problem for you to use the 144-hour visa. If you want to go to Xian, you need to apply for a visa in advance since it is outside the visa region.
