About:144-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

I am on a cruise that started in Japan and arrive into Tianjin port on October 24th 8am.

The cruise ends in Shanghai. I depart on October 30th at 8pm from Shanghai International Airport bound for Australia. Am I eligible for the 144 hour transit visa? Will this mean I cannot leave Tianjin port until 8pm on October 24th to be eligible?

The route is not eligible for transit without visa. Tianjin to Shanghai isn’t allowed.

Can I apply for the 144 hour visa in Shanghai. The cruise ends in Shanghai 29th October 8am and we fly back to Australia on 30th October 8pm. Or would that be considered a transit? I assume I must not get off the ship at the prior ports in China but only in Shanghei.

It doesn't matter if you get off the ship or not. If the ship stops in China before you arrive in Shanghai then you need a visa.

That won’t work. You must get a visa.
