About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shanghai 144 transit visa with different airlines

I'm a US citizen planning to arrive in Shanghai Nov. 5 on a one-way United Airlines ticket Chicago to Shanghai, and fly out to Tokyo on Nov. 8 on a Japan Airlines ticket. Will I qualify for the free transit if my onward flight out of Shanghai is not booked on the same ticket as my inbound flight? I would not have a hard ticket from JAL, but just my printed confirmation that I purchased the ticket. Thanks for the advice.

Separate tickets are never a problem as long as you have the 14/15-digit ticket # handy.
