Direct transit visa qualifications and 144 hour visa

I am overnighting at the Crowne Plaza at the Beijing airport. I am there less than 24 hours so can I use the direct transit visa?
After being in Mongolia for 10 days, on my return to the USA I am staying at the Crowne Plaza for 6 days. Am I okay to use the 144 hour visa for this transit through China?

1. Yes, can use the stay permit for the no more than 24h stay.
2. You are OK to use the 144- hour visa for a transit.
