16 hours transit in guangzhou

Question

Hello,I have 16 hours transit in Guangzhou. I arrive at 5.30 am and my next flight is at 9.30 pm. I have an Australian passport. Which transit visa do i qualify for? Do i need to book a hotel for the visa? As i have whole day lay over i just want to explore the city rather than staying in a hotel.Thank YouMd

If your route is Country A-Guangzhou-Country B then you will qualify for 24 hours transit without visa. It should be possible to leave the airport but it's ultimately at the discretion of the immigration officer.
