About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, two day visit to beijing

I live in the US. I will be visiting a friend in Hong Kong in a few weeks and was thinking of jumping to over to Beijing for two nights before flying back to the Hong Kong and then the US. Do I need a visa for this short two night stay or can I get by with the 72 hour provision?

You need a visa for HKG-PEK-HKG because you are not in transit. Hong Kong-Beijing-Macau would not require a visa.
