About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 hour visa. My partner and I are doing a sea cruise from Japan to Hong Kong in November.

the liner spends from 6.00am to 8.00pm in Shanghai. do we need a visa and if so from where?

Do you mean you will travel like Japan-Shanghai-Hong Kong, if yes, you can apply for 24h twov in Shanghai. No visa will be needed.
