Flying US to PVG (direct), staying 3 days, then direct to BKK. Just want to make sure this is OK?

Yes USA > Shanghai > Bangkok is eligible, you can stay up to 144 hours in Shanghai. If there was a second stop (even same plane) inside mainland china then it would not be, for example USA > Shanghai > Beijing > Bangkok is capped at 24 hours

Thank you for your quick response!! Does it take a considerable amount of time to go through these lines at customs compared to actually having the 10 year visa?

Usually, you can get the result within ten minutes if only few people are waiting there.

It depends on how often you travel and where , i hate playing the 3rd country game and the limits to where i can travel inside the country. I've only done TWOV once and they barely let me in (8 hr stop Auckland > Shanghai > JFK) that was several years ago, 3 day stop should be no hassle. I've had the 10 year visa for 2 years now and done 5 entries, i barely even noticed the TWOV "kiosk" until my last trip. I didn't see anyone in line.
