Multiple Entry Z Visa

Is it possible to apply for a multiple entry Z? A client is performing in mainland, leaving to perform elsewhere in Asia and then looking to return for additional performances. Is there an alternative multiple entry visa you could suggest if the Z cannot accommodate this schedule? The M via perhaps?
