About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hello, Melbourne-(Transit Hong Kong)-Beijing-(Transit Hong Kong)-Melbourne

I am an Australian passport holder coming to Beijing from Melbourne via Hong Kong. I am staying from Saturday until Tuesday Morning (early). Am I eligible for the 72 hour free transit? Or only if I convert Hong Kong transit to a Hong Kong stay (which would make it the third countray)? Looks like I may need to visit Hong Kong for the day on my way home..

If you fly Hong Kong-Beijing-Hong Kong you need a visa. It doesn’t matter how long you stay in Hong Kong. You’re not in transit at Beijing and you’re therefore not eligible for transit without visa.
