M visa extention and police registration

Hello

i am now in GZ and currently have a M valid for one month (had an X2 before in SH) .

My intention is to renew it for at least three more months.

For the last two weeks (since i reentered china) I have been living in a cheap hostel but now I found an apartment.

Should i ask for a temporary residence permit if I want to renew my visa or should I just just do a nornal registration at the local police station? i m very confused Can i renew my Visa in Gz or should i exit Mainland China first?
