About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

New York (JFK) - Narita (Tokyo, 2 hours for transit) - Pudong (Shanghai, stay 3 days) - Narita(Tokyo

Would this itinerary work? I will fly from New York to Pudong, but there is a two-hour stopover in Narita, Tokyo for transition. After 3 days stay in Shanghai, I want to fly to Japan. Please let me know if this route works for 144 hours twov?

Visa will be needed unless you go to a third country before returning through Japan. China looks at flight immediately before and after Arrival. This is treated as Japan > Shanghai > Japan which is not a transit.
