About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I apply for the 144hr visa if I book my flight as a stopover instead of a layover.

I want to know if I qualify for a 144hr twov if I book 2 separate flights
Lax to Shanghai (id only be in Shanghai for 16 hours but it's cheaper to book separate)

Jess, do you mean your travel route would be USA-Shanghai, and Shanghai-Japan, right? If yes, you qualify for the 144h twov in Shanghai. Nice trip.

separate tickets are allowed. Just bring confirmation print out from the airlines with the ticket number on it.

There is NO 144 hour visa. You want the exemption from getting a visa. The exemption is FREE. Have your onward/exit-flight-from-China ticket IN YOUR HAND to show when you apply at the Chinese airport.
