About:China Tourist Visa

L visas to China

I am British passport holder taking a cruise from Shanghai after spending 2 nights in the city, hotel is already booked for me and my wife by the cruise liners on 24 October 2018, my return flight to UK will be from Japan on 12 November, do I get a tourist L on arrival at Shanghai?

L (tourist) type's need to be applied for in advance. What you are looking for the the Transit With Out Visa (TWOV) which is applied for at immigration after landing. You are eligible for this as long as you are traveling Country A > Shanghai > Country B. Any other stops in China (even if not switching planes) would invalidate
