Hi Sue

Unless you have been refused a visa in the past or have stamps in passport from restricted countries, you will be entitled to apply for 144 hr TWOV at Beijing airport. Under the new rules for the 144 hr exemption, you are able to leave from Tianjin. The old 72 hr exemption only allowed entry and exit via airport.
To apply at Beijing airport you will need to show proof of where you are staying and proof of your cruise booking (Setsail pass and copy of cruise itinerary)
Please note you can only travel in the Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei regions. You cannot do a day trip to Xian or Shanghai for example.
Also, to gain exemption, please ensure your flight into Beijing does not transit through any Japanese Airport. This is because your first country after leaving Beijing is Japan (Okinawa) and therefore you are not in transit, as they will classify you as Japan - China - Japan.

Enjoy your cruise, see you onboard, 3rd cruise on Ovation.
