About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Having two layovers

Hi is this itinerary allowed for the visa-free:

Montreal > Shanghai (for 36 hours) > Sydney > Melbourne > Beijing (for 25 hours) > Montreal

Can I get the visa-free for both the Shanghai and Beijing layover?

Do I need to register with the police if I get a 72 hours free transit at the airport? I will be staying with a friend. I am a Canadian citizen
