About:144-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

I will be staying in Hong Kong for 2 days, then onto Shanghai for 4 days.

I then fly to Bangkok but as this is Cathay Pacific flights they transit through HK air port. I will not enter HK on return.
Does this qualify for the 144 hour visa (I'm Australian so passport ok)?

It does not qualify because HKG-SHA-HKG isn’t a transit. You need a visa or different flights.

Thanks Rob. So, fact that on the return flight I am going from SH to Bangkok, but the flights are SH to Bangkok with a International transit in HK airport, without actually entering HK, this is not allowed..... Thus I need to find another airline for the return.

Yes, choosing another fight directly to Bangkok is available.
