About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi. Length Layover in first county

I am flying Canada->Tokyo->Shanghai (72hrs)->Canada.

Is there a required amount of time I must stay in Japan before traveling to Shanghai or can I simply connect in Japan on a new and separate flight and airline onto Shanghai? Therefore starting my route Tokyo->Shanghai->Canada
