Route Length and Difficulty

What's the most challenging hiking route, and how long does it take? Can I hike up and down fully in one day if I'm fit, and make it back to train station in the evening if I start early?

The most challenging route: red gate palace - wanxian tower - halfway gate to heaven - south gate to heaven - jade emperror peak - sun-viewing peak. It takes about 5 hours from red gate palace to the peak and 3 hours to go down. It's possible to make a round trip in one day.
Many give up hiking down and take the cableway and the tourist bus within one day.
