Taking gold out of China

I have bought gold in China, and want to take it out physically. It is in gold bars and has a value of $20,000. I have been living in China for 4 years and have receipts for the purchases. I'm sure I have to declare it but do I have to pay duty on it ?.

If the weight of your gold doesn’t extend the limit(200 - 5000 grams), you do not need pay duty on it. If it does, you need.

Thank you, 5kg is a huge limit for bringing gold out of China without duty. Any ideas where I would have to go to get the paperwork for this ?, they will definitely not just let me walk out of China with that value of gold or even 500 grams (which is what I have).

You should declare the gold you take according to the China Customs Luggage Declaration Form when leaving China. Or you can ask the Custom Declaration office in the airport for help if you have any questions.
