About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shanghai round Trip

Can I fly Chicago to Shanghai to Tokyo to Shanghai to Chicago with the 144 hour exemption?

The Chicago to Shanghai would be a round trip but I wouldn't stay in Shanghai longer than 144 hours and I would have a round trip to Tokyo from Shanghai.

USA > Shanghai > Japan is allowed under 144 hour TWOV. Once you have officially left China you can do it again Japan > Shanghai > USA.
