I'm a Canadian married to a Chinese woman. Trying to get the family visa, but I'm not employed. How can I get my residence permit?

If so, you can try to apply for a family Q1 type from the CVASC in your country. If it can succeed, you can enter mainland China under the Q1 type, and the apply for the Chinese residence permit at the local police station within China.
