About:How to Choose China Train Ticket Types?

I am on a D train in standing tickets. This is my first time using a standing ticket.

I am going from Wuhan to Shanghai, can I sit in the dining cart?

Based on the policy, this is not allowed but if you can find seat there, you can sit first. Usually the staff would not question about it if there are still many other empty seats there left for lunch/dinner use.
