About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit from Laos to Mongolia, changing planes in Kunming and Beijing; no visa required?

I will be flying in July from Laos to UB in Mongolia, with relatively short stopovers in Konming and Beijing. So I will have to transfer from an international flight to a domestic flight in Kunming, and then from domestic to international in Beijing.
Do I need a Visa for this - you website indicates that I don't, but I want to be hundred percent sure

If it is less than 24 hours from your scheduled arrival in Kunming to scheduled departure from Beijing then you won't need a visa (assuming your passport qualifies).

Hi Rob - what if Stephen needs to clear immigration/customs at the airport in Beijing to check-in before his flight to Mongolia? Would the 24hr-TWOV still apply? I'm in a similar situation, hence my question. Thanks!

Clearing immigration is inevitable in this case. However, if immigration is satisfied that he is a genuine traveler, he will be given a 24-hour entry permit at Kunming airport with which he will use to clear outbound immigration in Beijing. The 24-hour TWOV applies as long as he has a ticket leaving mainland China in 24 hours. The grant of the permit is at the officer's discretion, of course, but many people reported no difficulties.
