About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I do this?

Will this work?

I have a US Passport and plan to utilize the 144 free transit waiver. My plan is this:

DFW-PEK and stay in PEK for 4 days. I plan to do the overnight train to HKG, stay a few days and then fly home to DFW from there.

My question is this--

Can I take the high speed trains from Beijing to Hong Kong, with the stops/transfers in between and still qualify for the waiver, or no? Would I have to take the direct train to Hong Kong in order to qualify for the waiver?

You will need to obtain visa before leaving home.

Your only option is the nonstop train to Kowloon which departs from Beijing West Railway Station and is the only way you can take advantage of the 144-hour TWOV by train. Keep in mind that because you are considered to have left Mainland China once you are on board (immigration clearance is done at the Beijing West Railway Station), you won't be able to leave the train during its stops and that train will take about a day and a half to reach HK.
