Accomodation

I am travelling around in China so I don't currently know all my accommodation. Do I need to have booked accommodation before applying for my visa?

If you have an invitation letter from mainland China, you don't have to book accommodation for the application. Otherwise, you are supposed to provide round trip air tickets and hotel reservation for that.
