About:144-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

We are from the U.K. and flying into Shanghai and immediately joining Cruise to Japan for 7 nights

We then return to Shanghai for a 3 night stay. Is the 144 hour visa applicable?
