About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flight connection. Do I need a VISA?

I need to attend a scientific conference in China. The workshop lasts about 3 days. I will be leaving from Italy (Milan) and return to Milan by two different routes. Effectively my trip will be

Milan-Amsterdam-Shanghai on the 12 of August
Hangzhou-Paris-Milan on the 15 of August

Thanks,
Roberto

As long as those are the only cities your plane stop (even if just an hour) its fine for Transit Without Visa. For example If Hangzhou - Paris stops anywhere else in China or Amsterdam then you need a visa. Same for the way in. If Amsterdam to Shanghai stops in Paris or elsewhere in China a visa would be needed.
