Question

I will be an exchange student in a university  in Shanghai for 5 or 6 months. I will like to travel to other cities and countries during my stay there, so what type of visa should I apply for? Thanks

You can try to apply for a student X1 type for that. If it can be done, you can get a Chinese residence permit after entering mainland China. Then you can travel to other cities and countries during your stay there.
