About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Melbourne > Shanghai > Tokyo

I am travelling to Shanghai from Melbourne and will be staying for maximum 4 days. I have an onwards ticket from Shanghai to Tokyo on the 5th day. Will this mean I fall under the. 144 transit rule?

Yes, you will be. As long as you are arriving in Shanghai and departing to a country other than where you came from.

I have just travelled from the Uk to Shanghai (stayed one night) then took a cruise to Japan. Returned to Shanghai for 4 days, then back to the Uk.

I needed to apply for 2 separate transit visas. First one on arrival in Shanghai from the UK and the second when disembarking the cruise from Japan in Shanghai.

The application is very straightforward. Name. DOB, Passport number. Flight no. and address in Shanghai. You will require to show the a hard copy of your flight details (arrival and departure) and accommodation details.
