About:Dual Nationality

Wife is Chinese living in USA with Green Card telling me she must cancel Chinese nationality.

She is adamant she MUST cancel Chinese nationality and also forfeit her Chinese pension. Is this fact or fiction?

Green card just means your wife got the permanent residence in America. Her nationality is still Chinese and she still has Chinese pension. If she cancels her Chinese nationality, it’s no doubt that she will forfeit her Chinese pension. By the way, China doesn't admit dual nationality.

If Chinese wife cancels her nationality with USA Green Card does she also forfeit her Chinese Passport?

No, there is no direct relationship between the USA Green Card and Chinese Passport.

Stewart thank you very much for your insight and knowledge. I did not ask second question correctly. Wife believes she must cancel Chinese nationality which will cause her to forfeit Chinese retirement pension. If she cancels nationality is that the same as renouncing her Chinese citizenship and will that also cancel her Chinese Passport? Thank you very much.

Yes, if she cancels her Chinese nationality, she just cancels her Chinese Passport. As for the Chinese retirement pension, if she had gone through retirement procedures before going abroad, she can get the pension. If not, she can’t.
