About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 hour police registration

Although the page doesn’t say so, is it a requirement to report to the local police station where staying if not a hotel? This is mentioned in the 72 hour page but procedure is lacking on this page. Please clarify. Thanks

You must always register when your stay is longer as 24h in China (72h in rural areas).

You need to register with the police within 24 hours of arrival if staying in cities, or 72 hours if staying in rural areas. You need to bring your current passport (if your Chinese visa or residence permit is on a different passport, you should bring both), your arrival card, your friend's ID card and possibly his hukou booklet. Also your friend must come with you down to the station. Make sure to keep the receipt they gave you until you have left China.
