Layover in Shanghai. Thank you

Hello, we are flying from the USA into Shenghai airport with a 16 hour layover. We are wanting to stay at a hotel nearby for our layover, do we need a transit visa?

Michelle, if your next stop after transiting in Shanghai is not USA, you can enjoy 24 hr direct transit, and no visa is needed. Maybe you can stay at a hotel nearby for your layover, but I cannot assure that.
