144 -hour visa eligibility

I have a round trip ticket from US to Shanghai, arriving in Shanghai on April 22nd, departing on May 9th. However, I have a different flight out of Shanghai to Thailand on May 28th, returning back to Shanghai on May 9th to catch the flight back to US. I’m pretty sure I qualify for the 144-hour visa while in Shanghai, but please let me know if I’m incorrect. Thanks
