Hi, you can enjoy visa-free transit policy in Shanghai by traveling like that. No visa is needed for the trip.

I thought transit visa is eligible, if a person arriving and departing from the same airport. I called Celebrity cruise line, they said I defiantly need visa.

Shanghai must be your only port of call in Mainland China for you to be eligible. If you have any other ports of call in Mainland China, you'll need a visa.
