About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Does a flight connection city count toward Transit Rule?

If my destination is Beijing, but needed a connection (Hong Kong) to reach there, and I already have a confirmed onward ticket to Hong Kong. In this case, does the Transit Rule apply or not?

If you would travel like USA-Hong Kong-Beijing (6 days)-another country or region rather than HK, you can enjoy free transit in Beijing. Nice trip.

That will only be seen as HK-Beijing-HK by Chinese immigration, which is obviously not transit, so you need a visa in advance.
