Hi, your trip can be covered by the 144 hr free transit, and you can apply for it twice as long as you can meet the requirements. No need to worry.

Many thanks for your quick response - I have had great difficulty in getting answers as many Visa company's wish to sell you the normal visas and the Cruise ships and travel company's direct you to the visa sellers.

Hi Marian- can you advise if there is any further documentation that backs this up as we are still having a battle with Royal Caribbean cruise company who will not commit to any answers regarding Visas and send you to Visacentral - who then suggest you need to get permission from your Carrier (Royal Caribbean) to use the 144 hour Visa - basically we are going round in circles.
Thanks again .

If you can travel like England > Shanghai (6 days)> Country A, it does not matter what country A is (just as long as its not same as England), you can apply for the 144 hr free transit in Shanghai, and no Chinese visa is required. You could try to check the information from Timatic.
