Question for HKSAR passport renewal in New York

Hi,

Today is March 29 and I just went to the China Consulate in New York to apply for the application of my HKSAR passport renewal. The officers there said it will take 2-3 months to process. Do you think it is possible to do that? How long does it takes for you guys to receive your passport? I plan to travel back to HK during July and I am not sure I can do that. How do you think about that? Thanks so much for your help.

Hi, if you are told so by the officers of the consulate, it would 2-3 months to process the renewal application. You are advised to wait the result patiently.

That depends, since your application is sent to HK by mail from the consulate in batches. It will take another 6-8 weeks once ImmD receives your application and it will take no less than a week for the ImmD to send the passport back to the consulate. Next time you can just apply for a Chinese Travel Document instead as the HKSAR passport is not required for entering Hong Kong anyway if you have a valid HKID.

Hi Matt. Thanks for your reply. I decided not to buy ticket until I got my passport back. you never know how long it will take eventually and it is just too risky to confirm that I can leave after 3 months.
