12 hour layover. what is the process?

Can we leave the Shanghai airport and sleep at a near by hotel for a 12 hour layover.We are travelling from Bangkok to Shanghai to Toronto.

Hi, you could be able to use the 24 hr direct transit in Shanghai. You need to inform the airline in advance that you want to use the free transit in Shanghai, and show the tickets and passports, and hotel reservation at the immigration counter upon arrival.
