About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Exiting Beijing via International Train

If i am arriving in to Beijing through PEK airport but departing (3 days later) via International train to Mongolia, does the 144hr visa waiver still apply or do I need to leave by air via PEK?

Beijing West Railway Station is the only train entry/exit point for Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei region. Mongolia train leaves from a different station.
