About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

am I elegible to visit shanghai?

I will be traveling Mexico- japan, and for the return we are planning japan-china-mexico, we plan to stay 2 days ONLY in shanghai, am I elegible to VISIT the whole city with this 144 hours exemption? I am asking because the information I have read in other sites is confusing, I thought I will be only elegible to stay at the airport, not to visit the city.

Of course you are. The government has nothing to gain by keeping you in the airport for 48 hours.

The shanghai airport only limit is for stops under 24 hours without a hotel booking confirmation
