About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travelling on stand-by basis.

Being retired from an airline (SAS) I need to to get a seat, as stand-by from CPH to BJS a couple of days (2-3) early as not to miss a booked connection to North Korea. Less than six days though.
Going back from BJS to CPH, I only have an electronic ticket with no confirmed booking.
I have several options going back to Europe.
Can I stay a couple of days in BJS with 144 hrs free transit-visa in both occasions?
Many thanks,

You must have a confirmed onward ticket for transit without visa, no exceptions.

No standby travel allowed when using TWOV. Even if you have confirmed onward paid ticket.
