HONG KONG - CHENGDU - HONG KONG connecting flight to LONDON connecting fight to NEW YORK

Hi, I am a UK passport holder and will be in Hong Kong for 1 week prior to flying to Chengdu for 2 days. I'll fly back from Chengdu to Hong Kong and connect to a flight to New York via London. Is this okay under the 72 hour transit rule?

HONG KONG - CHENGDU - HONG KONG is not a transit at all. So you cannot enjoy 72 hr free transit in Chengdu.
