About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Los Angeles to Shanghai to Kunming to Kathmandu

I have a flight from Los Angeles to Kathmandu. I have two stops in China within 24 hours. Do I need a visa to leave the airport? I just want to stay at a hotel for the night if possible.

You do not if your total time spent in China is less than 24 hours (measured from the scheduled arrival time to Shanghai to scheduled departure time from Kunming). If otherwise, you need a visa.
