australian passport holder travelling through wuhan

i have an australian passport and am travelling to rome later this year with a stop at Wuhan for fuel for 2 hours - i have been advised i need a multiple transit visa. is this correct? We then have another stop in Guanzhou - this is the same on the way back as well.
